I'd like to make a request. There are a few surprises on the DVD (escpecially in "Making Blue Paint"), and I'd appreciate it if the early reviewers would try not to be too descriptive of specific moments, so that those moments can stay surprises.

Thanks!!

Of course, this doesn't mean you can't review the DVD at all! A lot of you have it now. What do you think?

I think the DVD is fun to watch and a nice collector's item. I do, however, feel that it will mainly appeal only to tried and true Venice fans since it's full of inside jokes and such. It's overall marketability is limited at best, but then I don't think the band was exactly aiming to make it globally marketable, so that's fine.

It's slick and silly and fast paced and there is a lot jammed into the video itself. The outtakes are humorous. I only wish more footage of the Venice Pier shots had been included. I would have enjoyed some shots of the dolphins in the water that day and some close ups of the fans at the pier, if not in the video itself, at least in the outtakes. Overall, though, nicely done.

I can't agree more Diane. I feel really lucky to have been a part of that Pier shoot too, and would like to have seen more. I 've only watched it a couple of times but did see Michelle in the video, although I haven't found the eggs yet!

Thanks for putting it all together for us and anything to help the band right!!! It's definately worth it!

Matt, any other footage to share? Or are you saving it for the next DVD? Just wondering.

You'll all enjoy it and really need to add it to your collection if you haven't already!

Lori :)

Unfortunately, when the pier stuff was being shot, because the helicopter was coming and I needed to be hidden from that camera, I had to stand pretty far away from the shooting area. As a result, all I have is over an hour of the exact same action over and over and over and over and over again. I tried to move around as much as I could, and I zoomed in to different distances, but believe me, I used about as much of that footage as I could, and cut off right when it was about to become samey and repetitive.

Keep in mind, I was too far away to record anything that was being said up where the band was. All you can hear on these tapes is faint music playback. So from where I was standing, all this footage is is fans walking in circles and removing coats, again and again. Trust me, you can only watch so much of that. You'll notice that I did use the coat removal five or six times as a quick montage from slightly different angles. The only reason I even got away with doing it that much was because it cut with the music.

Believe me, there was nothing more from that tape that was different and interesting. I wrung it out for all it was worth.

And it's an issue that I deal with in my day job all the time. When I'm shooting behind-the-scenes, I have to be respectful that what I'm doing takes a back seat to the actual production. The priority on the set is to shoot the video itself. Not what I'm doing. So I have to be out of the way, and get what I can. Because the minute I wind up somewhere where I shouldn't be, and I ruin a shot or I slow things down, I'm immediately banned from the set and that's the end of me getting any footage at all. And so, I have to go in with the mindset that I'm going to be the one making all the compromises, and I'm always happy to get whatever I'm able to get, as unobtrusively as possible.

So yeah, maybe I could have made my way up close and gotten all the juicy moments with the band interacting with the fans. But it would have gotten in the way of production during a very busy day, and it would not have been appreciated.

So I have no complaints. I got what I got, and I think it cut together nicely.

I have gotten reports from a few people that have had no problem playing the American Blue Paint DVD on their Region 2 players. Please try playing it on your DVD players and let me know if it works.

Just a note to thank you and let you know that the DVD works on my player.

It's great, finaly a perfect quality for a perfect band, they deserve it.

I hope that the concert in Carre will be just as good and funny as this one.

Okay, now that everyone's got their DVDs, the conversation ban is lifted. Feel free to talk about as many specific moments as you'd like.

Did everyone notice Spoonido shouting "Red! Blue! Red! Blue!" at the beginning of the pier section of "Making Blue Paint?"

And a huge shout out to my brother Aaron for my favorite moment in the Production Slideshow: When Mark drives his car into Kipp and his wife, and they go bouncing offscreen. I laugh out loud every time I see that.

There are a lot of funny moments on it! One of the highlights to me is the last 'easter egg' I found. The one on the DVD credits page. About Kipp having the flu, the Whitney Houston joke and stuff like that. Have to see the DVD more and more often to remember all the details of the whole disc, but I have to wait for that. Still living at my parents house and my DVD-player is downstairs. So I have to share the TV with my brother, who also has his DVD-player attached to the TV. Hopefully I get the chance again this weekend.
