As this is kind of on-topic ( the guys live overthere, don't they ;) ) I post it overhere.
Just browsed through the Venice California website on http://www.westland.net/venice/index.html. It's so cool!! It's very beautiful overthere. Now I sort of know what to expect while visiting Venice in November. Lateron I will also take a look at the webcam again, 'cause at this moment it's pretty early in Venice which means there's not much to see yet ;)

Yes Venice is beautiful. Besides being cool and pretty it is
probably the most culturally diverse area of L.A or even
California. This is mostly good but can be bad so be careful.
If you want any tips about where to go and what to do
feel free to ask as I grew up there myself.
Bon Voyage

Hey Greg, would love to have some tips about where to go in L.A. surroundings, will be there from 4 till 15 November after which I'll attend the cruise from 15 till 18 November.
Hey Steven, where are you living in California? I might stop by for a cup of coffee if I'm in the neighborhood ;)

I'll be in California probably in February next year.
It would indeed be great to have some tips and pointers and do's and dont's about Cali. So I'll welcome every bit of inside info.
I for instance will be travelling alone. Is that safe?

well, it isn't safe to hang around venice after dark! (the beach, that is!) the spoon lives about 40 minutes away from venice and the beaches. i'm up along the mountains, so it's nice and quiet and woodsy feeling... at least for the los angeles area! not to worry, susan... you're never alone if you take a spoon along.:eyebrow:
coffee with paula can be fun, too!

So you live 40 minutes from Venice? That's in the neighborhood then. Would be fun to meet you! I'll be in L.A. from 4 till 15 November (after that the cruise from 15 till 18 November). Maybe you can be our tourguide while we're in America? ;)

My God, you are terrible, Spoonman!
I hope for you that Randy will indeed order buttons with a blinking :eyebrow: , so you can meet some girls at the concerts.
Better yet: why don't you start a Dating-thread on this froum?

I wish I could go there too. I would love to meet you all, but that also will stay a dream I think. With a little kid it's not the best vacation to go to I think. When I will go to The States, it definately will be California.

Hi Paula,
The time of year youŽre going is a bit funny. No telling what
the weather will be like. Usualy it is cool and clear with alot
of billowy high clouds. The best sunsets. Having a car is important
if your not staying in Venice or Santa Monica, where public transpo
isnŽt too bad. Also, since hanginŽat the beach everyday isnŽt on,
shooting up to San Francisco and/or down to San Diego/Tiajuana
for a day or 2 is worth it. Driving up the coast to SF is time consuming but maybe the most beautifful drive in the world. The new Getti museum is fantastic but make reservations.(in LA)
Be sure you know where youŽre staying. There are travel agents
that will stick you in a hotel that is a long way from anything.
If you can tell me where that might be, IŽll try to hook you up
with some friends in that area.
Traveling alone can be dicey, but LA people are good about
inviting visitors to come along to parties, etc. Always be careful
but itŽs fairly easy to spot the nice people. People, who live at the
beach, tend to stay near by and enjoy a laid back life style so again
Venice, Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey are good places to hang
out and "taxi close" at night.
Feel free to ask any specific questions and tell me what you enjoy
doing or what you thought about doing there.
See Ya
Greg
P.S. The Spoonster sounds like a good bet. He lives in a beautiful
area. Most people dont realise how close the mountains are

Hi Ellen,
California is a great place to take your son.
The thing to do is rent a caravan and drive. You wont
believe how much there is to do and see in one state.
When you stop for the night there are tons of other
families doing the same thing. Good fun for big and little
people alike. When thereŽs lizards to chase and rocks to
throw, kids dont have a language problem.
IŽve met many people who have had the time of there lives
doing that holiday.
Think it over.

Hi Greg,
Thanx for the insights.
If you don't mind, I'll also keep you up on your offer for more specific details, once I'll be planning my trip beginning next year.
How about the National Parks?

Me, Erik and Sean are a bit lazy during holidays. We only want to lay on the beach or swimmingpool, have a swim, relaxing on the terrace, have nice bbq's. In less words, do nothing. We work hard all year and during our hollidays we only want rest and we don't want to drive a lot to see things. We drive a lot every day to our work, because we don't live nearby, so we don't want to sit only in a car during vacations. Sean is a kid who needs other kids to have a great vacation. When he's on his own, he is not having fun. We now rent a mobile home in Spain every year. This is great for Sean, lots of kids, lots of fun, mini clubs and great for us too, because we can let him play everywhere, without fear he gets of the camping. In CA you don't have such places I think. It would be great to go to a camping in CA near the beach and then you can drive a few times to see nice things, but I don't think there are such concepts.

Hi Ellen,
Sure they have campingsites in the USA!
Just check
KOA Website (http://www.koakampgrounds.com/)
It's just that a vacantion like this one is much more expensive than renting a caravan in Spain, unfortunately, especially with kids.
Bummer...

It will be definately more expensive, because we also have to buy plane tickets. It's a pitty I don't work anymore at a transportcompany, because we also had a freight office at Schiphol and we could get tickets really cheap. A few years ago we were choosing between CA or Barbados and it got Barbados. I still regret I didn't go to CA. But then we didn't had a kid yet so you do that easier. I will check this site to see what I can found.

Thanx Greg for the info. And well, the reason I'm going to US in November is because of the Venice cruise! As 4 days was a little bit too short for me I included about 10 extra days so I can see something of L.A. and surroundings too, and not 'just' be there during the cruise. We're going with quite some Dutchies, so I won't be alone luckily.
And Spoonido, does that cup of coffee still counts? Would be nice.

Yes Paula, I know you are going for the cruise.
But since IŽve lived in Denmark for 4 years, I always think
about LA in the summer time. IŽm trying to remember what
there is to do in the fall. Party alot and wach the sunsets
I think.
Good that youŽre going with a group. Deffinately get out
of town a bit on your 10 days. IŽve always said that LA
is a great place to live but not so easy to visit. The best part
is that it is driving distance to alot of easy places to visit.
Then again, it depends on who you meet.
Not to put him under pressure but Marky always knows
of something fun to do on any given night.
Check out http://www.laweekly.com for stuff to do. Music, theater,
etc. IŽll bet Pete Valenzuela could recommend some live bands.

yes, there's always so much to do here, but a cup of coffee with ol' spoony here is a nice way to give a home-away-from-home touch to your big LA trip. i'll even get out the guitar!
