Last answer (hope I am right!) was Tom Petty, Refugee.

Next Clue:

In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river

In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me ...

I'm fairly shure that it's right.........so before I hit the sack (it's 0.30 o,clock over here) here's a new one........also an oldie, I just love 70's music.

You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter
Come on you stranger you legend you martyr and shine!

Must be easy!!

Here it goes:
Think seventies

Don't know why I'm surviving every lonely day
When there's got to be no chance for me
My life would end and it doesn't matter how I cry
My tears of love are a waste of time
If I turn away am I strong enough to see it through
Go crazy is what I will do

:dancing: :dancing: :dancing:

Lisa

Whoooee ha ha........yep! I'm waiting for the man to warm my bed (and me please!!)......he's still out working with his band........la la la la laaaaaaa

A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally

it's easy........think early 80's

Su2000
10-19-2002, 03:52 PM

Well have a great vacation! I'll put in a new one for you Randy.......I think you'll like this one too!

There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Hi Kathie,

YES...MOVE ON.....but not completely sure.....

Kathie
10-20-2002, 02:42 PM
Yes! It's Yes, Lisa. :D

Close on the song title, there are actually two titles for this song and you've gotten part of one title right.
Maybe this will help the rest of the title pop into focus:

:headphone
...Just remember that the goal
Is for us all to capture all we want
(Move me on to any black square)
Yea, yea, yea.

Don't surround yourself with yourself,
Move on back two squares,
Send an Instant Karma to me,
Initial it with loving care...

Oh well, mabey this one is not as well known as the others of them.

It's "Angel" of the Eurythmics.
It's a great song!!!!!!

I'll give you another one:

Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control
it begins with your family, but soon it comes round your soul
Well I've been where you're hangin
I think I can see how you're pinned
When you're not feeling holy
you're loneliness says that you've sinned.

Come on Lisa I know for sure you can do this one

Good luck

Karin

Lisa

Kathie
10-21-2002, 02:44 PM
Oh hey...I thought we weren't supposed to use sites to help us!? :) :) ;)

In that case, I found the title and a couple of artists who have covered this song... but since I had help, I don't want to say...unless no one else comes up with it!

Or if Karin says it's cool.

Karin

Lisa
10-22-2002, 07:45 AM
Ha ha ha ladies, please................I don't mean using a site........I wrote..."sight"........like in seeing, visioning..........most of the times get the lyrics at once.........
I wouldn't even know how to find lyrics on a site??

Well, Karin.......I'm going to break my head on this one. Working tonight, so, maybe someone will beat me to it.

But no ladies.......I don't use site's..........I just use my "lyrics-Xray-SIGHT"......hihihirotfl

Lisa
10-22-2002, 07:49 AM
Old ones..........let's guess a bit.......

David Bowie?
Leonard Cohen?
What;s his name...."The Hirricane" singer?

Clues, clues.............

Kathie
10-22-2002, 08:09 AM
rotfl OH! yes you did write sight and not site! sorry 'bout that Lisa! :)

I know how to find lyrics sites...but I don't (and won't) use them to answer any lyrics here...but, for the rare times I have good sight and get the answer first, I'll use them for a quick cut and paste of lyrics I get to post! hehehe

BTW, Lisa...I think Karin would be proud...you've gotten the name right....question is which name???? :D ;) ;)

kaja
10-22-2002, 08:21 AM
Hi ladies,

This is fun :D

But Kathie why don't you give Lisa a hand? ;)

It seems to me you know the answer, come on girl.......
I know you can do it

Kathie
10-22-2002, 08:48 AM
Hi Karin...well, I do know the answer...but only because I cheated with site help after I saw Lisa's post thinking she had a lucky site. :) LOL

I didn't have the kind of help you had, with colleagues, so I don't feel right about saying the answer. :)

But, I'll help Lisa (or anyone else) out this much...Leonard Cohen and here's a few more lyrics :)

:sing:
Oh the _______ __ _____, they are not departed or gone.
They were waiting for me when I thought that I just can't go on.
And they brought me their comfort and later they brought me this song.

kaja
10-22-2002, 09:02 AM
Hi Kathie,

There aren't that many Venicians online, so you can best give the answer.
Lisa is working tonoght so .................... :D

About the cheating rotfl , I don't mind.

Karin says it's oke to give the answer, cool as you put it earlier ;)

Give me some lyrics girl, I want to guess again, although that's not my strongest side

By the way, is there a change you're on MSN?

:sing:
...If I had just one wish
Only one demand
I hope he's not like me

It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony

Should be easy.

Kathie
10-23-2002, 01:07 PM
She Blinded me with Science...but I can't think who sang it. Some dorky looking guy?

Lisa
10-23-2002, 01:51 PM
Thomas Dolby's the dorky guy........

How was your holiday Randy?

Here are some new lyrics:

"Somewhere along the lonely road I had tried to find ya
Day after day on that windy road I had walked behind ya "

Very easy lyrics.............

Lisa
10-23-2002, 01:56 PM
Come on Randy.......I saw your on-line.......I just have this feeling that you know this one?

randyc
10-23-2002, 02:09 PM
Too easy! :)

First, my holiday was grand. Very nice. Lots of luxury. Tennis courts and golf courses. Lot of nice meals. Massages. Great weather in Palm Springs.

It's easy for me, but I am not sure for many. I listened to that album a million times as a youngster.

"Easy Living" by Uriah Heep. I loved "The Wizard".

randyc
10-23-2002, 02:12 PM
Going back some years...

"Then the door burst open wide, and my daddy stepped inside, and he kissed my mama's face…"

Lisa
10-23-2002, 02:13 PM
Hi Randy.......I knew it........it's your turn.
(My vinyl version of the Wizard has really turned grey.........halleluja for the CD invention.......got all my Uriah Heep and Pink FLoyd stuff on CD now.......aahhh....timeless)

Come on, give us some new lyrics.........;)

Lisa
10-23-2002, 02:16 PM
Hihi...........please give me more...........this was "Paper Lace" - "Night Chicago Died".......

Try again..........

randyc
10-23-2002, 02:51 PM
A favorite of mine:

When you're walking slowly to the car
And the silver in her hair shines in the cold november air
You hear the tolling bell
And touch the silk in your lapel
And as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the band
You take her frail hand
And hold on to the dream

randyc
10-23-2002, 11:34 PM
Alternate (easier) lyrics:

"There's no time to lose", I heard her say.
Cash your dreams before they slip away.

kaja

I try to sleep
They're wide awake
They won't let me alone
They don't get paid to take vacations
Or let me alone
They spy on me
I try to hide
They won't let me alone

I guess Randy's already on one ear now (asleep), so assuming my guess was right (pull me back if it's not !!) here's another one:

Where have you been ?
It's allright we know where have you been.
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time
Provided with toys and "Scouting for Boys"
You bought a guitar to punish your ma
And you didn't like school
And you know you're nobody's fool
So ....

I kept it in the 70's.

You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

"I've just seen a face" by Paul McCartney and Wings

The band was quite popular in the eighties. Hadn't heard of them for years, but a while a go they made a come back.
Strange to see the same faces 20 years older.

Don't suppose this song was really a hit, but as I said, it's a beauty. Depends on your mood whether you like their music or not.
Good luck!

Kathie

We'll thanks again Kathie for reminding me of those beautifull songs!

Here's a new one:

Sorry, maybe I've made things too difficult. Here's another lyric from the same band, diferent album. This one was quite a small hit in the Netherlands...

Walking 'round the room singing
Stormy Weather

Now it's the same room but everything's different
You can fight the sleep but not the dream
Things ain't cooking in my kitchen

You've got it right, I had just figured it out, but a bit to late :D
So give us another one would you..............

Arno Mooren
11-05-2002, 09:33 AM
Yeah the second one was 'Weather with You' from Crowded House, from their 'Woodface' album. The first, difficult one, was 'In The Lowlands' from the 'Temple of Low Men' album. So the hint of going down in the first question was about 'Low' and 'Down Under'.

I personally feel the music of Crowded House is quite alike Venice: strong melodies, strong guitar play, and nice harmonies. and, two brothers making music...

So Wilfred, give us another riddle...

This band is from the UK.
The album was released in '94.
It's a story from the first song to the last.
On the last page of the inlay they give this advice:
"Play it Loud with the lights off"

Lisa
11-06-2002, 10:42 AM
Hi Sunchild.........poeh.........no idea.........is it an old band or are they "90's??

sunchild
11-06-2002, 11:22 AM
In a way they are two bands in one band, because they changed so much after the original singer left and another one took his place. It was so drastic even that there are two groups of fans: of the old band and of the new. This album is with the new singer. They are from Scotland although I'm not sure everybody knows that. They were really big in the eighties with the original singer (he had one or two hits after he went solo). Their music is a bit like the old Genesis but more rock-ish although I always find it hard to compare...
The name of the album is a synonym for the word "courageous".

Yes......now I know......it must be Marillion and the album is Brave.
It must be the song Made again???

Here's a new one.......don't know if this has been a hit in America, but it sure was a big one in Europe in the early '80s.

Let's start in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

I heard a piece of that song this morning on the radio.
Let's have some new lyrics:

Move slow
Now your times at hand
Take heed
'Cause our love has passed
Hot fuse
Can be short or long
The time bomb of your
Life has come

This one must be easy!

Singing in the sunshine, laughing in the rain
Hitting on the moonlight, rocking in the grain
Ain't no time to pack my bag, my foot's outside the door

sunchild
11-13-2002, 06:13 AM
Clue:

The band is one of the favorites of at least two Venice members and is mentioned in most bio's. In this thread alone I've seen em twice.

The songtitle is a direct reference to the cruise.

I can't make it any easier..

kaja
11-13-2002, 10:17 AM

No it's not my real name:p
My real name is Suzan but I forgot to put my name under my message:D

Well here it goes.........

Two weeks on they found it buried to the windshield in the sand
There inside lay Tony with a small revolver in his hand
The papers simply stated it must have been the drugs that drove him mad
And the neighbors speculated what could make a good boy go so bad
Well, it might have been the desert heat
It might have been the home he never had

Let's see if tou know this one:p

Greetz,

Suzan.

Kathie

This one is not submitted for the lyrics game, I just thiknk it's so funny.
Hope you like it:

Dear sir I write this note to you to tell you of me plight
And at the time of writing, I am not a pretty sight
Me body is all black and blue, me face a deathly grey
And I write this note to say why Paddy`s not at work today.

While working on the 14th floor, some bricks I had to clear
Now to throw them down from such a height, it was not a good idea
The foreman wasn`t very pleased, he being an awkward sod
He said I`d have to cart them down the ladders in me hod.

Now! Clearing all these bricks by hand, it was so very slow
So I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below
But in me haste to do the job, I was too blind to see
That a barrel full of building bricks was heavier than me.

So when I untied the rope, the barrel fell like lead
And clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead
Well I shot up like a rocket `til to my dismay I found
That halfway up I met the bloody barrel coming down.

Well the barrel broke me shoulder as to the ground it sped
And when I reached the top I banged the pulley with me head
Well I clung on tight, though numb with shock from this almighty blow
And the barrel spilled out half the bricks 14 floors below.

Now, when these bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor
I then outweighed the barrel and so started down once more
Still clinging tightly to the rope, I sped towards the ground
And I landed on the broken bricks that were all scattered `round.

Well! I lay there groaning on the ground, I thought I`d passed the worst
When the barrel hit the pulley wheel and then the bottom burst
Well a shower of bricks rained down on me, I hadn`t got a hope
As I lay there moaning on the ground, I let go the bloody rope.

The barrel then being heavier, it started down once more
And landed right across me as I lay upon the floor
Well it broke three ribs and my left arm, and I can only say
That I hope you`ll understand why Paddy`s not at work today.
