Hello everyone!

So here's another review from a Venice-concert, held in Paradiso, Amsterdam. A magical place, if you aks me.

It was pooring all day and it seemed evening all day here in The Netherlands. But we, as the big fans we are, put our umbrella's up and went to Amsterdam. Standing on the stears in front of the Paradiso, we had our early Forummeeting, just by plain coincidance. Conny was there, Ilana, Susan, Amber, Helga, Paula and Marion. About an hour before the doors opened Sunny and Karin walked up to us. Ah, yes..there was a lotta Venice-love there in that Dutch rain!

When we entered the building, we soon noticed there were chairs all over the place. We sat down second row, in front of Kipp and Michael. Not everybody was allowed to enter though, at some point the seats were filled and the door was closed.

And what a show...I know, it's Paradiso, what else would you expect? But "Language of the Heart" never sounded better, I never heard Mark sing the way he did in "Starting here again".
And Kipp...well, he sang "The only love I had" and made my eyes water. Michael was at his best on the gitar and keyboard and made the place rock! The sound was EXCELLENT! Never been better! Christmas lights all around and it felt like being in church, as Paradiso once was.
Matt, you're gonna have some awesome picture's for the site, man! It was great to hear Kipp mention your name and the site.

What more to add? I don't know, apart from the fact that it was magical, beautiful, emotional, funny (Kipp versus Elvis) and most of all: the best show hosted by the best band in the world:

Venice.

I can only second all of the above, and add one word that Kipp already mentioned during the show (several times)

Guys, this was just

awesome!!!!

I had the best time ever, and the only downside for me was that a had to miss the second part because I had to catch the last train back to Meppel.. :(

Dear Venice,

You made Sunny very very happy tonight!

:) :) :) :)

well i`m back too.
sunny and karin, too bad you had to leave and missed the last part.
This time we ended with if i were you and that was great.
it is so nice meeting new venicetalkers at every concert.
We sat first row and very close to the stage.
Never happend before in Paradiso but we weren`t allowed to take pictures.Made a few without flashlight, but even that wasn`t allowed, why?? don`t know.
But the show was great as ever in Paradiso, very intimate atmosphere.
This time we decided we weren`t going to stay seated till Blue Paint,so paula on the left sight and i on the right sight looked at eachother, can we stand up and dance?
After we got up on our feet the others followed.
The sequence of the setlist was changed a bit,we got Family tree as the second song and if i were you as the fianal.
Micheal said Language is the most difficult song to play omn guitar, but Mike we don`t mind that little mistakes at all.
you`re a great guitarplayer and i love to watch you play it,great admiration for you
also again tears for me with the love i had,Kipp sings it so pure!
After the show we went up for the meet and greet but again the security was beiing difficult about making pics and i only made one.
we were pushed in the line or else had to leave.
i had my jacket signed and we brought some gifts for the whole band;a little bottle of champagne and a champagneglass with candle in it.They were very surprised and loved it.
so wished and kissed them all a Happy New Year and got a big hug from Jamie, thanks!
At the Tivolishow i bought John Vesters new cd and i had it signed by him now.i think it`s a beautiful cd with a great lay out!!,certainly worth buying.
But than we realy had to go home and i have to work tomorrow so i`m of to bed in a minute.
everybody who goes to the oosterpoort tomorrow, have a great time and see you all sunday.

Hi Matt,
they told you`d given them a camera to shoot some pics from them with the audience to put on Venice central.
so Kipp sets him self on the front of the stage and Mark takes the pic.
Part of mine pics are ready today as well,i hope and are coming you`re way too.

Last night was only my second Venice concert. Too late to be able to sit downstairs, had to make do with a balcony seat. Again I was mesmerized by their voices, their togetherness, and their ability to create an atmosphere of closeness and harmony.

So, already since I got my ticket I was determined to go to the meet and greet and get a CD signed (most especially by Pat).. But then I just chickened out! I'm such a twat! I was just too scared and afraid to start stuttering and I just know I'll get redfaced and act like a friggin' 12 year-old. I decided to spare myself the humiliation.

Next time I hope I'll have the courage to walk up to them, and just say what I feel. "Pat - would you please give me a hug"?..

Hi all,

WHAT A GREAT SHOW!!

Awesome. I was an hour before the show started and what a queue. Gladly I had one of the last chairs downstairs of the first section. So I was sitting perfectly for the sound and my view next to the path in the middle was also great.

I was so surprised that you werenīt even allowed to make photos. I saw someone with a digital camera above his head and right after he took the photo a big ugly security guy came up and told him he could take no photos.
Later on someone else was shooting with a flashlight and again the security guy came up.
I donīt understand why that was. The only reason I can think of is that they filmed the show professionally, as flashlights tend be be irritating on TV. It would also explain why they were so strict on audio and video recordings. Because if they are going to release it they donīt want audience recordings floating around.

Thatīs the only thing I can think of.

Because I noticed that there was not only security personnel from Paradiso itself checking but also an American looking security guy with a patch on his sleeves.

Anyway, is someone able to post the whole setlist?
as I donīt have the Christmas album and didnīt know all songs. Iīll see what I can come up with so far. Iīll post it tonight.

The bit with Elvis was done okay, but sometimes annoying for a real Elvis fan like me to watch. On certain points he went too far. But the jokes were funny. And he does sound quite like Elvis. Also the accent was better then I have heard many Elvis impersonators. I understand the joke about "Clambake". For the people who didnīt,
Clambake is a title of an Elvis film. So when Kipp said that he got over miss Santa Claus and that they had a little clambake. He was referring to the movie. and it also means that they had it very cozy. But Kipp should have a closer look to some Elvis shows. The gestures at the end of the song were incorrect.
Okay, I know I am very critical here and donīt flame me for it, but Elvis is my number one artist. So itīs not meant negative, but as positive constructive advice.

One last thing: Yolanda, sorry I didnīt see you.
But by the time I arrived there was aleady a long queue. I could have walked to the front, but I was alone and was afraid someone else would throw my jacket on the floor and steal my seat.

Did anyone succeed in making photos?
I am interested in a few. Although I doubt it. As they were so strict.

Regards
Merijn

The security of Paradiso was very strict about taking pictures this time. I don't remember if it was Conny, who was sitting right in front of me, or somebody else, but a picture was taken and immediatly security came up. The person appoligized friendly but he was just plain rude. The same guy blocked my way when I got back from the toilets, saying I wasn't allowed to enter anymore because it was full. Man, was he full of himself or what. So I put on my smartass face and said I already had a seat. I always have respect for people, but when they don't have that for me, I don't bother either.
Merlijn, to bad I didn't see you either, but that mission was ment to fail because I didn't how you looked like. :D When I went to the toilets, I went through the path in the middle, so probably went by you. Not that it matters anymore, but now you know we were at least very close! :D

P.s. Didn't see any green jackets this time..

Hi Yolanda,

Am I correct that the person you saw taking photos was on the left side of the path (facing the stage)?
I did see a few people coming through the path in the middle going to the toilets. Did you wear something red or something light blue and sitting on the right side of the pathway?

When going to the toilets did you notice that when walking towards the back of the hall there was a person with her leg on the chair to keep it up because she had broken it?
Directly after that girl I was sitting!

I also had the problem that I needed to say I already had a chair coming back from a visit to the toilets. I guess the guy who came to say that you weren't allowed to make any photos was this strange guy with a security patch near his shoulder was the rude one?
If he is you confirmed my guess that he would be rude.
He looked like an overachiever.

I really don't understand why the band agreed to this.
I was hoping that someone would ask the band in the meet and greet. I had to go home right away as I needed to get up at 6:15am.

Oh yeah, everybody: what was the fragment/ joke or song of the show you loved the best???

the securityguy came on to the girls on the left from me,they too pics with a flashlight.
i made some without it,but even that wasn`t permitted.
Ingrid asked him after the show and he said it came from Sony.

hmm.....wich song i loved the best is so hard,`cause i think the whole show is great but i`m impressed every time by Pat`s language,Mark`s Starting here again and Kipp`s The only love i had and afcourse going out of my head with One quiet day and...... so on
BTW the one in red was me i guess,i had red letter pants and a blouche with red in it.

Everyone stole my marbles: Paradiso is indeed the best.
Pat had already told me that but as this was my first Paradiso show (after about 20 other Venice shows) I finally found out for myself that it is true indeed.

Especially Starting Here Again sounded so good in this former church (only in Amsterdam.......) that I sort of choked. I have to admit some of the glamour of that song wore off though after Mark told me he calls it 'Starting Beer Again'.

I said it before and I will say it again: Venice live is so different from a Venice CD. Must be the vibes, the people, and the hugs after the show.

I honestely admit, it is a kick when your favorite band member sneaks up on you from behind before the concert, gives you a big hug and a kiss, remembers who you are and asks you why you haven't been to any shows in so long.
How do these guys remember all this stuff??

Beautiful story Esther. I don't know how they do it either. But I think the fact that they just care about their fans helps a lot.

Yes Merlijn, I was talking about the guy with the path on his sleeve. With the funny hair.

The best song of the evening definatly was "Pushed her too far". I never heard that song before and it was beautifull! Great lyrics and all. Very good. The best joke of the evening was when the guys came on stage, waited for the music to start with serious faces (Family Tree?) and someone shouted: HAPPY NEWYEAR GUYS!!! On which Kipp whispered back: I can't talk to you right now....

(who was wearing a black vest with silvery buttons, and sat at the right side of the path and didn't see any girls with broken feet. :( ;) )

Kipp's Elvis thingie is meant as a parody, so not to be taken too seriously ;)

Hey Nina,

you must not be afraid if your standing in front of the Venice-guys at a meet&greet. It`s a cool thing - but I have made the experiences, that it is more easier to talk with the other band-members (had in 2001 a wonderful talk with Jamie Wallum) as I had until yet with one of the Lennon-guys. Every time I`m trying to talk with one of them, it seems to me, that they are not very interested to talk with me - I haven`t found out why (seems that they are afraid of talkig with me... :(

Martina

P.S. Yes, that self-picture thing with that cameras from Matt they`ve told us in Groningen, too. Where are those photos?

Martina

Oh I`ve forgotten something:

What is so interesting to get hughs and kisses from the Venice-guys? I mean, 100 and more people are looking at you when you`re doing this! For me it`s more interesting to get a big kiss from my son. Don`t get me wrong, but Venice-music is more exciting than a kiss in front of a crowd of people behind you :)

Martina :)

well when i`m in front of the veniceguys i am totally not aware of how many people are behind or beside me.
now it`s getting crowdier at the meet and greet it is a little bit more difficult to have a long talk with them.
While shaking hands with them(wich other band does that) i feel the energie flowing into me and last tour i got two big hugs from Pat and jamie and that was given which such big warmth that it makes me feel very special. And i still can feel it weeks later.
And so int`s not interesting but a very beautiful, warm feeling which i cherish in my heart forever.

Con, you're not the only one who feels that way;) A hug from the guys, after I told them what their music means to me, gives me a good, warm feeling too. I can understand Martina too, but as long as i don't have kids, i'll just have to do with Venice-hugs;)
(and other people's hugs, offcourse!)

I agree with Conny and Danielle. Those hugs are so sincere and well-meant! And every time those smiling faces when they tell me how much they enjoy the booklets I gave them. And no, I'm pretty sure they don't say that just to be nice, but they mean it. It feels so mighty good! ;)

Wild guess:
I think the "T" stands for Takamine (Marius' guitar which Pat plays now and then) and "C2" means: capo up second fret (technical guitar thing)
