View Full Version : Venice at Venice Pier, Video Shoot: "Blue Paint"

okay, so this wasn't a "performance", but i thought that some of us might like to hear a little about the 'blue paint" video shoot today. it was another perfect california day and we all had a great time joking with the band. even though it was work, the asides and off the cuff remarks from both the band and fans made it so much fun. it was especially fun when we all kept thinking that each of the helicopters overhead was "our" helicopter!:) it looks like it's going to be a very happy video and the new mix of "blue paint" is perky and fresh sounding.
afterward, spoon and his special sweetie rode their tandem bicycle around venice beach, only to run into matt levitz and kipp, who were "busted" for filming without a permit on the beach!

well, uh, although the desired maximum of participants was not reached, we certainly put out the energy of a full crowd!:D the bystanders who were fishing on the pier were rather intrigued by it all, and several were dancing to the music as well!

...and that's a wrap!!
WOW!!! WHAT A GOOD TIME THAT WAS. FROM THE MOMENT WE GOT TO THE VENICE PIER, FROM THE TIME WE LEFT. IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS THAT EVERYONE WAS ENJOYING BEING IN A SMALL SECTOR OF THE VIDEO. STRIPPING DOWN TO OUR "LUSCIOUS SHADES OF RED" TOOK A FEW GOOD TRIES. BUT ALL-IN-ALL, WE GOT REALLY GOOD AT IT AND WE WERE ROCKING OUT!! EVERYONE LOOKED SOOOOO GREAT AND BRIGHT AND CHEERY! LIKE ALWAYS, THE LENNONS WERE IN GREAT SPIRITS AND READY FOR A GOOD TIME, BUT AT THE SAME TIME WORKING HARD. CHEERS TO MARTY AND MARK FOR DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB DIRECTING. EVERYONE WAS SO COOPERATIVE AND GOT IT ALL DONE ON TIME. A FISHERMAN THAT WAS STANDING BY EVEN WAS FEELING THE MUSIC. I SAW HIM EVEN SINGING ALONG AFTER A FEW TAKES. :D
WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FINAL CUT! IT IS GOING TO BE SOO COOL. I COULD IMAGINE HOW NEAT THAT ARIEL SHOT IS GOING TO LOOK!!!
THANKS EVERYONE FOR SUCH A GOOD TIME, AND THANK YOU TO VENICE FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN YOUR VIDEO.
NOW LET'S DO THE VENICE WAVE.....

So there we were, Nurse Sharon from San Diego and I driving up the 405 Freeway at 7:15 a.m. from my house in Orange County wearing enought makeup to give the hookers on Hollywood Blvd. a run for their money. (Hey, we were just following Mark's video makeup instructions!!):D The weather gods were smiling on us all giving us a perfect California day: sunny, warm, no rain or fog. The shoot went amazingly well considering we fans were all amatuers at this. First they filmed ground shots of us walking around the band, then close ups of the each of the Lennons, then the helicopter shots. It was pretty funny when we all whipped off our blue jackets on cue as the helicopter flew over, only to find out it was the wrong helicopter!! That gave us good practice when the right helicopter showed up!
It was great fun and if it looks as good as it felt, it's going to turn out great. Thanks to the Lennons for including us fans in this; to Marty for his direction and to Mark for having the vision in the first place and putting this thing together.

I just want to add my THANKS too for allowing us the opportunity to have such a great morning in Venice, with VENICE.
It was also nice to meet some other fans, and finally meeting our webmaster Matt. My sister and I had a BLAST!
Thanks again!

Silly girl, fruits don't go into labor, they reproduce through the spreading of seeds. But isn't that a little off-topic for this thread?
I went to three of the shooting locations today (the first of which being the group stuff on the pier) and shot behind-the-scenes footage with my company's mini-DV camcorder. I got some really great stuff. Of course, the video continued shooting well into the night, but I had family commitments and couldn't cover anything beyond mid-afternoon. However, they will be shooting again all day on Monday, and I will be there for that.
So yes, I will be creating video files showcasing the best of this making-of footage that I shot, and posting them on Venice Central. But I can't guarantee when that will happen. My guess is it will have to be sometime after the debut of the music video itself, so I don't give away any surprises.
Still, it's a nice little something to look forward to, isn't it?

Thank you for all the reviews guys.
So does anyone know when the new single and video will be released in Holland?
Will the video ever air in the Americas?
Tell me Matt, how was it shot? Video? Film?
If only the shoot would have been 2 months later, I would have been in it....

Yes it is! And I'm glad it's not me this time to go off-topic!:D Because I didn't ask to know anything about seeds and all. Silly man....:D :p
I can't wait to see the stuff you shot!
(No off-topic comment on the sentence above, please.)

You Californians have disapointed me - how many fans are you at least? 75 or so??? :(
Hey Venice, when will your fans from the other side of the Ocean get their acknowledge from the band (I mean being so truth, full of enthusiasm for your music..)
Finally: MOST OF US (HERE) WANNA BE IN A VIDEO-SHOOT, too :)
Martina
P.S. Thanks for the reviews from the video-shoot

oh, Martina....
no need to worry...the guys have WELL OVER 75 fans in California. They've had many, many years to build a sizeable fan base here. Their fans are all over the place. But getting a huge number of them to Venice beach, early on a Saturday morning, and at such short notice just wasn't an easy thing.
Those of us who could make it there did. It just wasnt possible for lots of the other fans, many of whom live down in San Diego or up in Northern CA. Keep in mind this is a HUGE state and not everyone could drop what they were doing to get there for a 2 hour shoot. For some of those folks it would've taken a 5 hour drive or short plane ride to get to LA for this shoot. I'm sure they all wanted to, but it just wasnt possible for everyone to be there.
We didnt have 125 there, but we had plenty. And it'll look great on the finished video!
AG :)

Huhu Bubba (your name reminds me to one of my favourite movies - Tom Hanks had the main-part....)
But we are more fans here in Europe!!!! And Venice had get a better shoot at Scheveningen-Pier. :) :) :)

Yeah right, with beautifull weather and temperatures. They are born and raised in Venice, so it's logical that they shoot at "their" pier.

It would have been fun, though, to shoot their video in Scheveningen. Can you picture them wearing red caps and blue gloves:D Face it Martina, their climate is way better then ours:( I can't wait to see the results, guys!

I hear just a touch of jealously in the notes from our Holland fans.... Hey we can't help it if we live in a sunny place just made for shooting video's!
My daughter, myself and my neighbor and her son participated in the video shoot and we had a blast. It was too bad that we had to leave right after they finished as we all had other things to do that day. The Lennon's are always so nice to the fans. At the Christmas shows my daughter got hugs from everyone (thanks Spoon!) except Pat, but at least she got a guitar pick from him. We are looking forward to seeing a cut of the video at the March 22nd show, too bad the kids are too young to get in and see it too... It's a 21 and over club.
Wish we all could have been in the video, Dutchies too!

Spoon! You make me very curious! What's the touch of Holland in the video? Did they fly Jan Douwe Kroeske in for a cameo? Is Kipp wearing wooden shoes? Are there cows on Venice Beach???
Oh well I'll just have to wait and see..... "pretty soon, pretty soon soon soon soon soooonnn....."

You will love the video.....I will just say big and ORANGE.....maybe a pair of clogs or two...hmmm?.....I will also say the weather that day was supposed to be rainy....and it became the MOST perfect day of the year! As the music blasted out from the pier over the big blue ocean...and we all circled and danced....a group of dolphins appeared to romp in the surf.....In my family we take this as a sign from Mom Dad and Katrina;) :guitar2: :sing: :coolsinge :band2:
